Nate Southards – obituary

Nate Southards, 16, of the Jenkins Branch Community went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 11, 2013 at his home. A native of Swain County, he was the son of David Southards of Bryson City and Barbara Kilgore Carswell of Cherokee. He was a junior at Swain County High School where he excelled in wrestling, track & field, and baseball. Nate also loved cars, four wheelers, and anything with wheels on it. He attended Arlington Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his step mother, Carrie Southards and step father, John J. Carswell; one brother Jarod Southards of the home; a girlfriend Michaela Sherrill of Cherokee; two step sisters Shelby Lynn Carswell of Raleigh and Kaylee Simmons of the home; Maternal grandparents Ed and Margaret Kilgore of Cherokee, John and Priscilla Carswell of Stecoah; paternal grandparents, Harley and Josephine Southards of Bryson City, and Beecher and Linda Huskey of Bryson City; one paternal great grandmother, Bertha Cloer of Bryson City; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held 3pm on Friday, March 15 at Victory Baptist Church. Revs. Jon Stevens and Ed Kilgore will officiate with burial in the Euchella Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-9pm on Thursday, March 14 in the Swain County High School Gymnasium.
